Dodge Repair: 98 Grand Caravan, grand caravan sport, instrument failure

Question
Hi Pete- thanks for taking the question. We have a '98 Grand Caravan Sport.  Intermittently, we experience total instrument failure when driving.  Some times it comes back all of a sudden- sometimes it doesn't come back until the next time we use the van.  It does not always lock in a code.  The last time it did we took it to the dealer who said the code (1801 I think) was indicating trouble with the BCM.  At the time it was at the dealer, the instruments were fine, of course.   The quote for the BCM was very high (too high for us)about $700 so we didn't have it done.  I have contacted some used parts dealers and can get a BCM for about $120.  Is this something that would be hard to change out?  Thanks for any advice.
