Question:I was lucky the problem was a broken valve spring replaced it and compression ok.The problem now is no spark to plugs. When turning ignition on 12 volts at coil + terminal and ground at - terminal but 12v dissapears in 2 seconds. The ASD relay operates and releases thats when I loose 12v.Could you let me now the theory of operation of this circuit so I can trouble shoot easier.I'm not sure where to check next.
Thanks Wayne.

Greetings,I am working on a Dodge Dakota automatic 2000 may have a 1999 motor 5.9 liter engine. It has an engine air hood scoop also. The problem started last week. While driving in heavy rain, water splashed over the hood, since then the engine started running rough and lacks power.I was told water may have entered through the scoop and caused this problem. The owner replaced the plugs (platinum)with standard type, wires, distributer cap, rotor button and air filter. The truck was diagonosed at a Dodge dealer and codes received were misfire at #1,3,4,6,and 8 and no compression at #1.Recommended a replacement motor.I removed all spark plugs, the plugs had black carbon deposits on them and those that had misfire were wet with gasoline I told the owner this and he said the old plugs were carboned also,he didn't remember if the old ones were wet.I labeled wires for replacement and took compression on all cylinders,#1 had 120lbs on first test on second and third test no compression registered at all.The remaining ones tested 165lbs.Used the engine analyzer cleared codes after putting plugs back attempted to start truck no fire at plugs.Checked for loose wires none found. Before testing compression unplugged fuel pump relay and removed coil wire to stop gas and fire to engine. These were put back before attempting to start.I'm lost at what to look for, thanks in advance.
