Dodge Repair: 98 Plymouth Neon Expresso, hairline crack, plymouth neon

Question
Hello,

My '98 Neon Expresso has been doing alot of intermittent overheating lately.  It never happens in the morning, but usually happens when driving in the afternoons/evenings on warm days.

The car mechanics can't get my car to overheat themselves...and it can't just be idling when it overheats, it has to be driven.  I'm really careful about the temp running higher than usual, so when I say overheat, it's running at the 2/3+ mark when usually it runs in the bottom 1/3.

My car did redline last week and I had it towed to a completely different mechanic.  In the last 2 years I've had some high dollar repairs, but mostly it's been an excellent car.

What's been replaced:  Radiator, AC Compressor, Water Pump (less than a month ago), and thermostat with the above repairs.  I had my car compression tested just before it redlined, and the results were fine, but that was while the car was running at the 1/3 point.  I'm hearing from my mechanics that it could be the thermostat, hairline crack in the heads, electrical, transmission, etc, etc...no one is agreeing.  I seem to be the only person able to overheat my car...or actually I seem to be the only one listening about when and how my car overheats.

Basically I'm at a point where I need just an answer so I can decide to fix or trade her in.  Any advice you could provide would be so welcome at this point!

Thanks,
Christina
