Dodge Repair: ram van 3500 dies on highway, pep boys, dodge 3500

Question
we have a 1997 dodge 3500 15 psgr. van.  109,000 mi.  5.9 liter
engine.   traveling through arizona with a trailer, and van lost
power and soon after it died.   we had a diagnostic run on fuel
relays, and all fuses are good.  we disconnected fuel line to see
if fuel pump was working, and discovered it was not pumping
fuel.  we changed the fuel pump in tank and it fired up and we
were on our way.   about 150 mi. down the highway, the same
symptoms happend,  power loss, and then it died, and would
not start.  It would crank, but not turn over.  we took it to a pep
boys ( the only mechanic around) and they can't seem to find
anything wrong with it.  I am concerned about getting on the
highway again with a trailer, having it die, and get towed a third
time.  any ideas what might be wrong?
thanks,
aaron seibert
