Dodge Repair: 1998 Neon Wont Start, dodge neon sport, dodge neon

Pete, I have a 1998 dodge neon sport with a 2.0 engine.  last thursday it was hesitating a little while i was driving(not alot..maybe twice) and the gas was at about 1/8 of a tank.  on friday i got in my car to go somewhere and it wouldnt start.  i thought maybe because low on gas and put some in from a gas can..filled it to about 1/4 tank, but still wouldnt start.  i have put in fuel injuector cleaner, changed the plugs and had the battery checked out.  it sounds like it is trying to turn over..sounds like it isn't getting gas. i was out of town on saturday and when i got back yesterday, i tried to start it and it almost turned over on the first try..then went back to sounding like it wasnt getting gas when i tried again.  i have never had this kind of problem with it before..it always starts right up. i would appreciate any suggestions you have of where i might start with trying to figure this out.  i do not have diagnostic equip..but am fairly familiar with cars.  unfortunately, most of what i know and have done is on the older cars with carburators and without electronic ignitions....am not sure what to start looking for on this.  also...i am in texas so it has been very hot..if that helps with your suggestions.  thank you for any assistance you can give me....especially since i have no other vehicle and sure need to get this one started...thanks again!

this could be a bad fuel pump i would pull the gas line off engt. system and see if it is pumpimg gas . of turn the key and listlen for the fuel pump to come on you should here it . and if you are geting spark it is not the timeing belt if u are not geting spark then check the timeing could be thr troulble . let me know how you make out hun and u have a pretty name pete
