Dodge Repair: Dodge Grand Caravan windshield wipers, dodge grand caravan, windshield wipers

Question
That is what I thought!  Yes, $60 sounds much better.  If you can give me step by step, I am sure he will make use of it.  He is an electrical engineer, and very knowledgable, but having the steps to follow, will save him any guess work.  Thank you so much!  And Happy Holidays!
~Cheri    P.S.  Can this be caused by pushing on the wipers?  My 9yr. old sounds like he may have pushed on the wipers while I was cleaning off the back window.(But the van/wipers were not running)-------------------------

I went out to start the van this morning (1997 Dodge Grand Caravan) to go to church.,..the wipers started fine, then stopped midway and just hummed.  Now they won't move, and if you turn them on, they just hum....any ideas on what could be wrong?  We are able to guide it with our hand and make it run, but it doesn't seem to have the max. power it should have.  Perhaps it is the motor that powers them?  My father thought maybe the gears were slipping, but after listening to it, he doesn't think it is that.
I live in Michigan where today it is quite cold....in the teens temperature wise....and although the wipers were not stuck when I turned them on, they were stuck to the windshield at first, and once they were loose I turned the wipers on, with some ice still on the windshield.  Anything you can tell me would be helpful....my father usually fixes most things on our vehicles, but he said this might be something I have to take to the dealer to fix, and it might cost $300.  So any ideas?
Thanks for your time.  And any info you can give me in great detail would be helpful so I can describe it to my dad and he may be able to fix it!  We did purchase the service manual, so I have that. Thanks again~
