Dodge Repair: Turn signals dont work., time delay relay, dodge shadow

Question
Dear Mr.Forbes,
I just purchased a'94 Dodge Shadow ES'and the turn signals don't work.First off I replaced the little blinker canister that plugs in under the dash on the drivers side(sorry, don't know proper name for that device)After I plugged it in I noticed it was getting hot,I mean really hot, like smelling up the interior of the car hot.Anyway,I thought maybe it was the switch so I replaced that and I still have nothing and the little canister under the dash is still becoming very hot.By the way,I checked the signal fuse among others, and they're all good.I'm already into this blinker thing for about 90.00 and I would appreciate any help before I end up taking it to a mecanic.
Thank you,
Eric

Answer
Eric,

Make sure you have the flasher unit and not the time delay relay for the lights. the time delay relay will get hot. the flasher should not.

Also there are two flashers. one for the 4way hazard lights and the other for the blinker.

If you have the right flasher and it is getting hot then you must have a short to ground, check all the bulbs, because sometimes they can cause a lot of trouble.
