The automatic transmission acts like it in a forward gear but won't move, when the selecter is in the Park and Reverse position. The car will move forward when the selecter is in the Neutral, Drive, 2nd, and 1st position. The transmission was acting OK until it started doing this. I checked the cable from the shifted to the transmission and it appears to be OK. Any ideas ?    Thank you   Alan W. Milliken

Alan,

I didnt not really understand the question you sent. but does the trans work ok and the selector is just off,   Like is the gear shift neddle just pointing to the wrong gear?  And what did you start doing to get this problem?

Steve

Hi Steve
The selector is Ok and is pointing to the correct gear, the transmission appears to be the problem. It acts like it's in a forword gear when the selector is in Park or Reverse, but the car won't move when in Park or Reverse, and if you give it some gas the car bogs down as if it's in gear but with the brakes on. the car will move forward when in Neutral or the Forward gears. The problem just started happened saturday night, according to my son, he hadn't had any problems before and said that it ran fine. Hope this makes more sense.  Thanks Alan W Milliken

Answer
Sounds like the trans is about gone. There are some presure test you can do by hooking a guage up to the presure ports in the front of the trans , but for the most people they would just take it to a trans shop.

If you have a trans presure gauge email me back and i can walk you through the test.
