Dodge Repair: 1999 Dodge Durango, dodge durango 1999, oil pressure gauge

Question
1999 Dodge Durango.  While sitting at red light at full stop, "Check Gauges" light came on.  Oil pressure gauge dropped to 0, then bounced back to center, light went off (5 seconds).  Drove 2 miles home.  All gauges OK.  Drove 6 miles at moderate freeway speed to dealership for repair.  No overheating, all gauges OK.  They told me I had almost no oil and had blown a gasket.  Needed to replace gasket, thermostat, hose, water pump for $1200.  A/C had stopped working that same afternoon (fan worked, no cool air).  I sent you a question about that 2 minutes ago and decided this may be related.  I maintain vehicle religiously - synthetic oil change every 3,000 miles, transmission serviced on time, replaced all hoses and belts, etc.  Car now has 102,000 miles and runs great.  Comment please.
Thanks very much.
