Dodge Repair: Weird problem and water leak, dodge grand caravan, coolant loss

Question
Hello

I purchased a 96 Dodge Grand Caravan, it has about 90K....

Well, a weird problem happens.  I have to let the car warm up to half way on the gauge or else it wont go into drive, but if I let it warm up, it is fine, works fine, shifts fine......I can push the gas if the car is not exactly 50% warm and it will POP into gear, then once it is warm, it works fine......

Also, the other day I came home, turned the car off and all of the antifreeze leaked out onto the driveway. I'm thinking the water pump, but not 100% sure.  How would I be sure, does this sound like a water pump issue?  Arent they designed to leak out of some hole when going bad?  Also for about a week, I've heard a hum noise when I turn the car on.

Thanks

Crystal

Answer
Crystal,
If thats the case with your transmission, you probally have a bad torque converter, or servo bands. Transmission repairs are very expensive, you may want to shop around and get some estimates before you repair this.
2. As for the coolant loss, yes water pumps are made with small holes on the side, what I would do is fill the vehicle up with water, run the vehicle and then you will beable to locate the leak. Dont use antifreeze, at the moment, when doing this test, gallon of this stuff is $10.00.
Also, check these areas for leaks, when the vehicle runs,
1. All hoses
2. Water Pump
3. Radiator
4. Frost Plugs/ located on the side of the engine both sides
5. I hope this somewhat helps you,, and Thanks.
