Dodge Repair: Dodge Neon Repair, midas location, neon repair

Question
hello there,

I am having a very bad week. I took my 2000 dodge neon to a midas location for a brake inspection and ended up giving them the ok to fix my serpentine belt, which I was told would take 20 minutes. They ended up breaking the belt tensioner and then told me the car would not start after this was replaced.they first thought it may have been the CPM- they were not sure and could not come to a conclusion so they transferred my car to a different location of midas and they suspected the ECM needed to be replaced, which would have been covered under warranty so they then drove the car to a jims dodge location and ended up thinking the wire harness needed to be replaced at that time they transferred my car to where i bought it and still carried a warranty- they determined that the harness had been saturated with oil and needed to be replaced and I also needed an engine mount repaired. after this was done the car would still not start so he told me the timing belt was off two notches and had to be fixed. I ended up paying over 4 hundred dollars to get the belt replaced I get my car home yesterday and after it sat for a couple hours i went to leave and it would not turn over on the first try - same this morning but it took three trys to start. Midas really pulled one on my car and they refused to pay for damages all I know is that my car ran GREAT and I have never had any problems with it until it got to midas. A friend of the family tried explaining what could have possibly happened - he said if they broke the tensioner they were putting to much torque behind it which probably affected the cam shaft ( i believe) and could have knocked the timing off- when my car was at midas they were 100 percent sure this was not a timing issue and as you can see this ended up being replaced as well so midas didnt have the faintest idea of what they were doing to my car - ? I dont know whats going on here but i was also told if they were messing around with the car while the battery was connected they could have fried everything and he said ill start having big problems - starter going out - then alternator and everything connected to the wiring harness- I am very stressed out - do you have any ideas what could be going on - I am in the process of talking to midas insurance and if need be taking them to court because I never had any problems with my car and they obviously did something while it was at there facility - Im confused- can you help?

Answer
First of all keep all your receipts, and repair orders from midas. Also, they are obligated to fix the vehicle and replace this, at their expensise even if the vehicle still doesnt start, tlike it should. I dont know how many miles you have on the vehicle, but if its still under warranty your Dealer should do all the repairs. The reason, why I say this is because it could void your warranty, if you allow someone else to repair your vehicle. The serpentine belt, should last a good 70 thousand miles before replacement. This belt drives the alt, water pump ect.If they used alot of force on the belt tensioner, they could of screwed up the timing. If this is the case its probally off, and now either the timing belt has slipped a notch, and may need replacement. Once a vehicle is timed, it should start right away, and it should run really good. If the vehicle is out of time, it will miss badly, and run rough. They could of damaged the timing belt when the used alot of force changing the serpentine belt. It doesnt take 20 minutes to change the serpentine belt, more like a hour, or more providing if everything goes well. Also, even if the wire harness did have oil on it you dont need this replaced, unless the harness has rubbed against the engine, and burnt the wires. I beleive if the vehicle ran good, and they screwed it up they started to replace parts that you didnt really need just to get the vehicle started. I dont beleive a wire harness, ecm, or cpm was in order. Best thing for you to do is call the manager, of midas, tell him he better have this car fixed right, or your going to take him to court. You can also call the Better Buisness Bureau in your area, most places dont like calls from these people. Midas in your area  dont know how to repair vehicles. Hope this helps you..
