Dodge Repair: Dodge Neon Mysterious Coolant Leak?, dodge neon, coolant leak

Question
My 1999 Dodge Neon is drinking up the antifreeze in less than a week!  The white plastic resevoir becomes completely empty in less than a week.  Usually, the radiator has some in it, but at least on one occasion, that was completely empty as well.  My mechanic cannot locate the leak anywhere.  I park at home on a gravel drive which is difficult to see leaks/spots on.  Obviously, something is wrong.

My mechanic thinks it might be a head gasket.  He is unable to do this work and recommended someone else.  I also am told that if I do the head gasket, that I should probably do the valve springs (a code came up about this) and timing belt at the same time since everything is near each other.  My car has about 79,000 miles on it.

Is there any other testing we could do to find out where the leak is and what is causing it?  Would you recommend doing all three of these things together as well?  I'm told all of this would cost at least $1,000.

Thanks a million,

Brenda K.
