Eagle Repair: 91 Talon Problem, eagle talon tsi awd, stepper motor

Question
Hi I have a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. When the engine in the car is cold it revs up and down, but after the engine warms up it idles good. I bought the car recently.

Thanks, Derek

Answer
Hi Derek

Sorry about the delay in my reply. Not an un-common problem, the idle stepper motor and TPS are to blame for this. When the engine is cold the motor tends to rev slightly higher to obtain operating tempreture in a quicker time. The coolant sensor's advise the computer to raise the rpm's, the TPS then reports an out of range condition which triggers the idle stepper motor to lower the rpm's again. Once lowered the computer again calls for higher rpm's and the procedure is repeated over and over until the coolant sensor reports operating tempreture. The problem lies with the setting on the TPS or the failure of the TPS itself, have it checked and replaced if neccesary. Hope this helps.
