Eagle Repair: 91 eclipse 2L turbo, no spark, transistor module, plymouth dealership

Question
Wayne,
My daughter's car (see subject) has stalled several times in the past year or so, very randomly.  This happens either while cruising (55mph) or slowing down.  Usually it is accompanied by what she describes as a "clicking" sound near the glovebox or behind dash.  I suspect this is the relay in the console, not sure what it's controlling, but it's the one you hear when the key is turned on.  Usually it will restart right away, a few times only after sitting a while (over an hour or two).  It finally died completely and has no spark.  I've checked the coils and have  correct resistance at pri. and secondary terminals .  Trying to diagnose the power transistor module that fires the coils, can't forward bias them and get continuity like instructions say although I'm using a digital meter not analog like recommended.     Should I be able to read continuity with digital DVM and if so, next problem is HOW TO GET THE BLOOMIN' THING OFF !  As you know it's buried behind the enclosure for timing belt etc.  Does this require special tool, or just major disassembly?  One "expert" at a Plymouth dealership says he's never seen those transistors go bad, and further told me I'd need a 10mm wrench to remove the part.  Granted he is a "Talon" expert and not Eclipse, but the fasteners I see look more like philips screws (possibly torx)than 10mm bolts.  Your advice here is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!
Steve

Answer
Hi Steve

Sorry about the delay, with regards to your problem I must say it sounds like the computer is about to give up. The reason I say so is as follows, the computer controls the fuel pump relay and the ignition on the vehicle. If the computer has a fault, or more commonly on these models bad capacitors in the computer, the computer tends to reset itself even while driving. When the computer resets the fuel pump dies and with it the ignition, the computer reboots and the system fires up again. The common signs of this is one the fuel pump relay clicking in out while driving or while starting. I would pull the computer and open it up, check the caps for signs of leaking and the circuit board for damage. Replace the caps as soon as possible for $5.00 or face a charge of $300 - $500 when the computer packs up.

Hope this helps
