Ford Repair: ford escape power steering, ford escape xls, electric power steering

I have an 2008 ford escape xls and the electric power steering is coming and going. I have it when i start the vehicle up but when i drive on the road, it goes to manual steering.  What is happening?

The problem your having is becoming more common,  you have electric steering, the p.s. mechanical motor and computer control module is cutting out. unfortunatley this is a common concern, they must be replaced as a unit and programmed by a local dealer,,,
