Ford Repair: 1999 ford escort se, electric solenoid, shift lock

Question
I cannot remove the key from the ignition and the car will not come out of park.  Shifter button will not press in so I can shift it out of park.  The brake lights are functional.

Answer
you have a faulty brake/shift lock actuator, it is a little electric solenoid located in the shifter assembly. about a 20 dollar part and fairly easy to replace, very common concern. if you go to you tube. you can actually watch a video on how to replace it
