Question
2006 ford 500 engine quit suddenly while driving and now wont start, any suggestion to what might be the cause? The little wrench warning light came on when this happened

Answer
either of two things happened. your alternator stopped charging and caused power loss to the engine or the throttle position sensor located on the throttle body shorted out. this sensor can be located by following the air snorkle from the ir filter to where it connects to the engine. it should connect to an aluminum housing. there you will find a 5 or 6 wire connector connected to a sensor. because you have no throttle cable and the vehicle is drive by wire. if this sensor shorts out, the computer is unable to control vehicle operation and shut the vehicle down. the easiest way to check this is to have the computer scanned by any garage. they will recieve codes similiar to. engine forced limit shut down, unable to control idle.
unfortunatley, the only way to check the charging system is to jump start the vehicle and keep it running while checking voltage at the battery. should be 13.6-14.2 volts
