Ford Repair: 1989 ford probe 2.0, fuel pump relay, fuse box

Question
My friend has a 1989 ford probe, and I took off the upper line on the fuel filter today, cranked the motor, no gas. And the engine does not start of course. I checked spark, that is not the problem, it certainly looks like the fuel pump?? Is it? And how hard is it to get to under the back seat? Is it in the gas tank or just on top of it? And should the complete assembly the sending unit plus the pump be replaced? We are trying to do this the cheap way, of course that usually never works that way? This car is fabulous shape, just the undercarriage rusty from all the years of Salt in Wisconsin. I am a pretty good mechanic, just need some advice on this one? Thanks, JOE

Answer
first check the fuses under the hood, second in the same fuse box under the hood is the fuel pump relay. swap it with another relay under the hood. third- the seat is fairly easy to get up. if you rest your leg/knee against the front of the seat and apply pressure then pull up on the front. repeat this for the other side.
