Ford Repair: bronco running rich, fuel pressure regulator, fullsize bronco

Question
QUESTION: I have a 91 fullsize bronco, 302, e40d tranny. Old gas smell from tailpipes. I have tuned it up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter, air filter. new dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers. I have already replaced the map sensor, engine coolant temp. sensor, the fuel pressure regulator. I had the truck hooked to a snap on code reader and it is not throwing any codes. Timing was advanced quiet a bit, put back to 10btdc and did not run as good. Running out of ideas here, any help would be great. thanks

ANSWER: Check your fuel rail, see if the fuel pressure regulator is changeable.. some bolt on some don't. check this and get back to me.   -b-

QUESTION: I had already changed the pressure regulator. It was a bolt on.

ANSWER: silly question but, gonna assume you checked to be sure the firing order/wires are in proper places. #7 and 8 can sometimes get crossed yet still fire. Does it miss fire or run rough at idle or just driving

QUESTION: it comes and goes, has a slight miss when cruising around 35mph but not always. has a lil miss at idle but like the other it's not all the time. I was driving it today and the check engine light came on for 2 or 3 minutes then went back off. The fuel pump does occasionally growl a lil, instead of the usual whine. I replaced the fuel pump relay last week because it wasn't kicking in everytime I went to start, but it never has quit on me while running.

Answer
suggestion, your year of vehicle unlike the newer ones won't store a code. When the engine light is on, if your scanner is available. do it then. if your timing is right at 10 degrees before tdc and you are sure you have the #7 and 8 wires in the right spot have you replaced the T.F.I module? located on the distributor ?? it is what controls your spark. I'm hoping when your check engine light is on you will recieve a code for  a P.I.P. signal out of range ( profile ignition pickup ). But first, try disconnecting the vacuu line to your egr and see if that helps. keep me posted. -b-
