Ford Repair: idle control, ford escort wagon, car idles

Question
hi there.i have a 93 ford escort wagon  4 cylinder  1.9 liter.. it seems to be having idling trouble. the best way to describe it is that the car races at start up. and then car idles way too low and wants to kill when idling or slowing down for stop signs. would this be the idle control motor or idle air control?? and how do you replace them yourself? any advice would be great. tyty

Answer
it is entireley possible this is your concern given your area. replacing it is not brain surgery. it is located on the throttle body. if you follow where the hose from the air cleaner meats the engine, you will see a silver valve on top with a connector that has two wires going to it. these are 8mm bolts. unscrew them install the new valve. also, replace your p.c.v. valve as this was a common concern. your local jiffy lube or auto parts place will probably replace your pc.v. for about 20 bucks. get back to me- -b-
