Car will not start in park but will in neutral,also when it is in park it does not engage you have to set parking break. thanks

so, just so i have this right, if it is park it will not start and when in park it will still roll ??. this being the case knowing these vehicles you need a new transission range sensor. it is located on the side of the transmission, they had a tendency to rust and not allow the gear shift cable to full put the trans fully on park. not sure how uch the part is but, repair is fairly easy. you'll need an 8mm socket to remove the two bolts holding the sensor in place. the cable pops off the srnsor lever. with a little effort you can remove the sensor ( exact location is where the gear shift lever connects to the transission ). the shaft the sensor slides on will need to be cleaned and rust removed. then slide the new sensor on.
