Ford Repair: 05 Taurus Headlights Wont Quit, auto salvage yard, drl module

Question
After having my battery die twice in one week, solved after the car was jumped off, my boyfriend noticed that my car's headlights are staying on. The dome light does go off, but the headlights stay on even after the key is pulled from the ignition, all doors are shut and locked, and the headlight switch is turned off. We tried pulling the fuse for the DRL lights (#37) and this does turn them off, but also turns off the headlights completely, so I have to replace the fuse before I go anywhere at night. I've read a few articles about this problem with older model Tauruses, mainly 97-99, but nothing near 05. Could it be the DRL module? Or a bad relay maybe? And if so, are those things that we auto-inexperienced could DIY? Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Chelsea,

You have either of two things going on both, which your average D.I.Y. can diagnose and repair with a little guidance. First, you will need to remove your headlamp switch ( you can google this, how to remove the headlamp switch on my 2005 taurus) very easy. and disconnect it, if your headlamps shut off, replace the switch. if they don't, remove the multifunction switch ( high, low beam directional switch ). there are 3 screws under the bottom cover of your steering column. remove them. the upper and lower cover will seperate. the multifunction switch is held in place with 2 screws. remove it and disconnect it, if the lights go out, replaceit. both of these parts can beboughtat your local auto store but recommend going to your local auto salvage yard ( cost efficiency )..
let me know how you make out.
