Ford Repair: FRONT END, radius arm, king pin

Question
Dennis

HI, I own a 1998 Ford Explorer, 6 cylinder. There is a part,
on the front end, I'm not certain if its called a King Pin,
or the proper name for it is. It comes off of the Radius arm,
it looks like very long bolt, there is a nut at the top and one at the bottom, you can visually see it when you crawl under the very front of the explorer. Do you know what I'm talking about. and how difficult is it to replace it.

thanks for your help

Ken

Answer
What you describe sounds like the stabilizer bar link, if so it is vertical and attaches to both the control arm and the stablizer bar. Not hard to change, unless it is broken or rusty. If the bolt is broken you may have to cut it off close to the attachment to remove it. At the shop we charge about 1 hour for such a job.
