Ford Repair: 02 Ford Taurus, coolant leak, vacuum leak

Question
QUESTION: There is water leaking and causing my vehicle to smoke. Its not coming from the engine block and there is no water in my oil. Could it be the water pump? Also, my engine is misfiring and the mechanic told me I needed a tune up and that would resolve the issue. Will a tune up really help?

ANSWER: nothing in a tune up will stop a coolant leak-yes it could be a water pump but since i am not there you need to find someone you can trust to check it out- i am not saying it doesn't need a tune up, it very well may you just need to find that coolant leak before  you blow a head gasket.

QUESTION: The tune up was for the misfire..we will be replacing the water pump because that's where the leak is coming from. If we replace the plugs and wired will that correct the misfire?

Answer
if that is the cause yes if not no-there is a lot of things that can cause a misfire if i was guessing without actually having it diagnosed then a tune up is what i would do, but if there is nothing wrong with plugs or wires then it won't fix anything-plugs and wires are most common, ignition coil next-dirty injectors-vacuum leak-bad cam synchronizer (will sound like bird chirping at times usually). go with tune up and keep fingers crossed.
