Ford Repair: 2000 Ford Focus Se, cv joints, torque wrench

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 Ford Focus Se DOHC. When I was doing a tire & wheel check I noticed that when I pull on the TOP of the drivers side tire it moves in & out. I checked the CV joints to make sure that it was locked in & it was. When I have someone pull on the tire the only thing that I can see moving is the inner CV joint shaft but it is new. Everything else is tight. Am I missing something?

ANSWER: bad hub bearing probably-make sure if you replace it you torgue it to specifications with a torque wrench or you will ruin it. if  you just replaced the axle and did not torque the nut to specs good chance it is ruined if you have driven it. the reason the joint shaft is moving is because that is what goes through the bearing and it is loose.

QUESTION: The bearing seems fine. It is not moving at the outer joint. It is pulling out at the inner from the CV joint housing but the housing is locked in the transmission.

Answer
if you are moving the tire it is the bearing/ball joint/ or tie rod end, strut or lower control arm that is all that will let you move anything when pulling on the tire-what i am saying is if you pull on tire and it moves the items above is all that it can be the most likely is bearing have it checked out especially if you don't have a torque wrench to check the bearing.
