Ford Repair: Brake light switch on 2002 Ford Mustang, brake light switch, ford mustang

Question
Hi Chris.  I have a 2002 Mustang, 3.8L V6.  Today I had a condition where I couldn't get the transmission out of Park.  Also, the brake lights didn't work when I stepped on the brake pedal.

I did some investigation and checked the brake pedal position switch.  I noticed that one of the wires going into the switch was burnt.  I'm going to buy a new harness and fix the problem, but I'm concerned that there may be some other problem that caused this.  Have you run into this before?  What could cause the wire to burn like that?  Thanks,

Bill

Answer
Hey there, I would have to see the wire myself. BUt if it was a short ciruit, the fuse would have blown for sure, It could be caused for chafing, Just make sure the new wires are not touching anything when installed., ALso for the cost of the switch i would put a new one in, they are inexpensive and may save this propblem from happening again.
good Luck
Chris
