QUESTION: There are no trouble codes, I assumed there would be a charging system code there is only a pending code for a coolant temp sensor

ANSWER: This appears to be a common problem with that year model. If you have had the charging system tested, with no problems, you should be OK. However, you should replace the Coolant sensor. Apparently 01 was not a good year for the Escape from the research I have looked into. I will definitely make a note of it. You may want to look into some of the complaints about it. Then try to weigh your pay off, etc. Put that next to the cost of possible major repair needs.

QUESTION: Just curious as to why I should replace a part that is not tied into the complaint, check the wiring diagram. An honest answer of I don't know would be better than your response. I am fully capable of guessing!

Answer
I can certainly understand how frustrating this must be for you. I recommend the sensor due to the trouble code. If you could tell me the specific code, I could tell you with certainty whether or not to replace the sensor. As far as the charging system goes; You are not the first owner of that year Escape to have that problem. I have asked around, and wish I had the truck in the bay, but it is not. I have does extensive research to only find bewildering responses. It is almost as if it is a software glitch in the ECU. However, I cannot tell you with any certainty without hands on. I know that this is not the answer that you want to hear, but it is all I have. Pull the trouble code at your local parts store. After you get the code, you can google it. But like I said, without teh code itself, I can only recommend a generic response.
