Ford Repair: Door Chime comes on intermittently, swithes, apparent effect

Question
We have a 2002 Explorer. The door ajar warning light stays on almost constantly and the chime comes on intermittently. The vehicle was recently involved in a very minor accident where a guy dragged a boat trailer against the back door (hatch).

Since I believe they removed the door during repair (don't know for sure, the damage was minor), I thought the problem was with one of the swithes for the back door or window. I removed the connectors from the switches on them and jumped the connectors so it would think the door and window were shut all the time.

This seemed to take care of the problem for a couple weeks, then it started in again. The only way I can get the chime to keep from going off is to disconnect the jumper from the door switch so it thinks the door is open, then the light stays on solidly, but the chime stops after a few seconds.

My thought is there's a loose connector somewhere, but everything's good as far as I can check without removing the headliner. Opening and closing the other doors has no apparent effect.

If we lock the car when parked the alarm sometimes goes off after a few minutes also. Other than I'd like to be able to lock the car, I don't really care about the door alarms. We have no small children, so just disconnecting the chime would be ok except for the locking problem.

I have been unable to locate the chime to disconnect it. Any ideas?

Answer
Hello Albert, the chime is integrated into a module, no way of disconnecting it. Try spraying some lube into the door latches and open and shut the door several times and repeat. If that does not work you can take it to ford dealer and they can perform a test when the light is on. Hope this helps Thanks Tony
