Ford Repair: 1994 Ranger Water Leak, seam sealer, plenum chamber

Question
Ford Repair: 1994 Ranger Water Leak, seam sealer, plenum chamber
Ranger Passenger Water
I have water intrusion, passenger side, right corner at seam of firewall and side panel.  It appears to be weeping at a rust spot.  After reading some posts, could I have a drainage problem from fresh air vents on passenger side?  Driver side drain works well.  Removed antenna and void under antenna full of debris

Answer
Bob,

Things that can leak like this on a 1994 ford ranger:

1) Air intake tower inside sheet metal cowl section. Water could either be entering the tower or around the tower seal. This would be behind the glove box area. If water is entering the tower it is possible that the cowl drain flaps are blocked or stuck shut. These flaps are under the inside front wheel well covers and allow the plenum chamber to drain itself of rain water. You would have to remove the front wheel wells to see the flaps. This repair you could do yourself. If water is entering the air intake tower seal,it must be resealed to repair. This repair would require a trained technician.
2) Sealer split or sealer missing at high cowl to lower 'a' post seam due to age. This seam is under the area where your fender and cowl screen meet. The fender would have to be removed in order to access the seam. This repair would require a trained technician.
3) The wheel well to bulkhead seam could be split due to age. You would have to remove the right side front inner wheel well and water test the seam. If found leaking, clean, prep and reseal with seam sealer and let dry according to instructions on can.
4) The windshield set could be loose and leaking. This would require a glass shop to look at.

I assume you do not have rust through or body damage as this would change the attempted repair diagnosis.

Thank you,
