Ford Repair: Dislikes Fill-Ups, gas nozzle, question pool

Question
My 2005 Explorer's engine misses and dies when ever I top off the gas tank.  The problem goes away after I run about 1 gal of fuel from the fuel tank.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Sorry for the wait; I pulled your question from the question pool. I have a rule of thumb about fueling up late model vehicles. I put the gas nozzle on high; when it kicks off I hang up the nozzle. Overfilling the tank all the way up to the fuel neck filler damages the fuel evap sensors. I can imagine that your check engine light is probably on. You can have the codes tested for free at any parts store. You either have the choice of repairing, or never going above 7/8's of a tank until you can afford the repair.
