Question
Hello James, My name is Katie I've been Reading answers you've given 4 a few hrs now in hopes of finding sum of the issues I'm having w/my car w/out having to bug anyone, but here I am anyway... let's see, the issues are running waaay 2 rich, I think I found what was causing that, maybe, my vacuum hose was not connected to the MAP sensor, hopefully that was it, and the main 2 big issues are I need 2 replace the clutch, and I still can't figure this one out, the car continually stalls out when it gets hot and won't restart till cooled down a bit... maybe ignition control module? with the clutch, I'm picking up the kit tomorrow also the small flywheel, or whatever it's called, do I need 2 buy the regular flywheel 2?  I would be grateful 4 any assistance! Thx!

Answer
First of all Katie, I want to tell you that you are not bugging us in any way shape form or fashion. The experts on this site are volunteers, and you are exactly why we volunteer. We will start with the clutch first. It was a good idea to purchase a new flywheel, because the old one would have had to be resurfaced anyway. To do that costs around fifty dollars, so it only makes sense just to replace the part, so you have it there with the rest of the parts avoiding the extra downtime. Also, in the kit is a pilot bearing, so be sure an have it replaced as well. If your kit id not come with the pilot bearing, pick one up, it needs to be replaced as well.Next we will go over the MAP sensor. You failed to cite the year of the vehicle, so my assistance is limited. When you reply to this response, please state the manufacture's date located on the sticker on the door jamb. A faulty MAP sensor will most certainly cause the vehicle to run rich, so it is important that you keep the hose connected. Replacing the hose is probably your best bet. Parts stores sell that type of hose by the foot, so you would be out a whopping two dollars at most. As you remove the MAP hose, go ahead and remove the sensor itself. Wherever you decide to pick up the hose can probably test the MAP sensor free of charge, so call around to make sure that they have the necessary tools to test the sensor. Now hear comes the possibility of bad news Katie. If your Escort has been running rich, there is a a good bet that it damaged the catalytic converter and at least one of the oxygen sensors. This also falls in the fact that you failed to state the year model, so unfortunately,I cannot tell you how many oxygen sensors your Escort has. The catalytic converter has precious metals in the shape of pellets that when heated, reduce the emissions. The problem is,if the engine is dumping raw fuel instead of burning it int he combustion chamber, the pellets group together causing blockage in the exhaust system. The blockage/clogged catalytic converter can and will cause the engine temperature to rise and cut off. You cannot rule out the ignition sensors, but the good news is that most muffler shops will test the exhaust system for little or no money.
