Ford Repair: 1994 ford explorer, exact function, plastic construction

Question
Dear Chris,

We recently replaced the brake pedal switch because the
brake lights stopped working, but in the process broke
the plastic construction attached to the brake pedal right
above the switch. It broke in two pieces. The car seems
to work fine without this piece whose function seems to be
to keep a button pressed in when the brake pedal is not
engaged. What is the exact function of this piece? Is it
essential for the proper functioning of the car?

Answer
hey there..I am not 100 perscent sure on what peice you are trying to describe to me. but if the brake lights are functioning properly now, and the brake pedal feels ok the I dont see why the car would not operatly normally without it there, good luck
