Ford Repair: service engine code, dpfe sensor, code question

QUESTION: HI,

The service engine light came on my '97 Taurus.  The code that came up was p04020...what should I look out for when I take that to a shop to make sure i don't get taken.

ANSWER: Hello Matt, The code is for EGR. I would replace the DPFE Sensor and recheck. Thanks Tony

QUESTION: Hey Tony,

Today I had the DPFE sensor replaced drove off and a few miles later the service engine soon light came back on...  by the way it was code P0402

what do you think the follow up should be?

Hell Matt, With the code coming back you'll have to check the operation of the egr, check the hoses for the dpfe to make sure they are not cracked and leaking, at a ford ford dealer they have the capibillities to monitor the egr system to see what is happening. Thanks Tony
