Ford Repair: Gas Tank Spit Up, 2001 ford windstar, ford windstar

Question
When I attempt to fuel my 2001 Ford Windstar SEL, I cannot get past 1 gallon when the fuel begins to spurt out of the tank.  If I stand there and let the fuel trickle in, I can get more gallons in, but the tank always sounds as if it is completely filled (like filling up a water bottle and you can hear the change in pitch).  My gas gauge is correct (it shows me at empty or 1/4 tank, depending on how much time I have to play the "trickle" game).  Any ideas?

Answer
hey there- at the bottom of the filler neck at the entry point of the fule tank, there is something called a check ball, or check valve, that is there in case of a vehicle role over to prevent fuel from spilling everywhere and catching of fire ect. ometimes the check ball or valve  gets stuck, or to dirty, [usualy stuck] this will prevent fuel from going into the fuel tank. do not attempt to stick anything down the filler neck as you just may cause more damage. have the filler neck removed and inspect the tank inlet and the filler neck itself. good luck
