Ford Repair: sparkplugs, motorcraft spark plugs, feeler gauge

Question
hi a am currently questioning changin my spark plugs on my 05 ford escape v6. i saw in another of your questions that you recomended that you use motorcraft spark plugs, and i wanted to kno why, and if it would be ok to put ngk iridium x plugs, sense i already bought them. please send me an email

Answer
That would be my one exception. Dang, your good. To answer your question, Motorcraft is the OEM part for your truck. However, Iridium is pretty much the best plug material available. The only drawback to them is the gapping technique needed. You cannot use the conventional gapping technique since iridium is such a soft metal. Using traditional gapping technique will damage the iridium. The only way to gap the plugs properly is to adjust the plug and test with a feeler gauge, only as a measuring tool, not as an adjustment tool. You can close the gap, by tapping the plug gently. Also, that particular brand is 1/2 the price of its competitors.
