Ford Repair: 3.0 v6 ohv U vin code, vin code, cam sensor

Question
I have a 01 taurus that started running rough.  It has a definite miss and when put in reverse or drive it becomes even worse.  I was told to buy new heads.  they were installed and the miss is less but still there.  The block is not cracked.  The engine has 76,000 miles.  Could the "cam sensor"  cause this problem?

if you haven't received your answer yet-yes cam sensor can cause this problem-do you have a squeak from time to time that sounds like a belt or chirp if so it may be a cam sensor-who told you to buy new heads or why at 76k miles had it been overheated or something.
