Ford Repair: 1994 Mercury Tracer Air Conditioner, mercury tracer, 1994 mercury tracer

Question
What type refrigerant does a 1994 Mercury Tracer Trio 1.9 liter use? Bought this car used, no manuals, and the air conditioner is blowing slightly cool... like it needs to be recharged. However I don't want to contaminate the system with the wrong refrigerant. Thanks.

it should have used r12 which we are finding very hard to get in our area and is expensive-so i had to switch to freeze 12 the last two years which i would not touch until i couldn't get r12 anymore-so far i have found it to be cold-pressures same as r12 and inexpensive i use it on older vehicles to charge and check for leaks instead or changing over to 134 because of cost-i have found if i change older systems over
with the original compressor i see a lot of compressor failures so i only change over older vehicles if they have major problem to begin with such as bad compressor. good luck.
