Ford Repair: 97 ford escort lx wagon, ford escort lx, 97 ford escort lx

89k miles, auto.  service engine soon light is on,  dooes this come on for maintenance or only if something is wrong.  just bought the car 5 days ago and there is no owners manual.  i know some cars have indicator for routine stuff.

hey there sorry for the delay. the serivce engine light comes on if there is a a compent failure, if you just bought this vehicle then i would suggest taking it back the the dealer you bought it from to have it inspected, so this light comes on only when there is a problem in this vehicle. good luck
