Question
QUESTION: I have a 2005 Taurus bout it at approx 26,000 miles and it had a slightly rough idel varies about 50 rpm ramdomly, but frequently.  It now has 110,000 miles still the same issue it has had new plugs, wires, air filter and fuel filter.

What other suggestions can you give to try.

ANSWER: Clean the idle air control valve and or throttle body. Detailed instructions are in several recent posts. You are going to be stunned at the amount of carbon/gunk caked. You would think that these instant oil change places would clean it, it takes relatively little time, and is very easy to get to. They look at the air filter, and that is half the labor.

Answer
To clean the throttle body and IAC, remove the air induction duct. Loosen it at the Mass Air Flow Sensor and at the throttle body, then remove it gently. You will need three items to perform this maint. Air intake and throttle body cleaner, a terry cloth, and a toothbrush. Withe the ignition off of course, you start by spraying the throttle body with the cleaner with 3-4 good aerosol squirts. Wrap the toothbrush one time with the cloth, keeping it small. Open the throttle by turning the accelerator gently at the throttle body, wide open. Spray the 3 more squirts in a circular motion. Gently scrub the inside of the throttle body and butterfly valve that rotates via. the linkage.Basically what you are doing is cleaning the air jackets to the sides of the butterfly valve inside the throttle body. At an idle, the butterfly valve is closed only allowing air through the small air jacket ports. Carbon deposits from the blow by gunk the inside of the throttle body. After hitting it with a tooth brush, use your index finger to do the clean up. When you get there, the first initial removal of the carbon buildup/gunk will explain it all. Spraying more cleaner makes it easier, but also collects into the back of the throttle body. After assembling the duct work back when you are done, this left over cleaner will take a few moments to burn off. There will be some smoke, but rest assure, your idle, will be remarkably improved.
