Ford Repair: electrical, carpet matting, water leaks

Question
2001 F150, while driving radio and power windows went dead for about 2 seconds, then fine (dash lights and running lights were fine).  Got to destination and put gear lever in park and they went dead again.  Put it in drive and they came back on.  Did this 3 times and same result.  Finally shut truck off and tried to restart---wouldn't start.  Worked gear lever up and down and got the radio and windows working again but won't start-----no clicking at starter, no nothing!  Had been having problems with dome light staying on periodically.

Answer
When you do an inspection for a water leak intrusion, you should have the interior scuff plate and "A" pillar trim removed so you can see the sheet metal body.
With the interior trim removed, soak the top, front left side of the truck with a garden hose for about 1/2 to 1 hour. Look inside the truck with a flashlight at the floor and at the bottom, front inside of the door area. Look to see if your left side dash mount bolts show signs of rust as this would be a good spot that the water is going.

Things that can be leaking :

(1)Bottom of the "A" pillar seam, high cowl seam to "A" pillar seam(all under your cowl screen). Also, check to make sure the cowl drain is clear of debris.

(2)Front wheel well seam to bulk head seam or plug,(all of which would leak onto the floor and be seen tight to the corner of the bulkhead to cowl section)

(3)Windshield set could be loose or leaking.

(4)Top of the "A" pillar seam,(can see this on the inside of the truck, looking along the sheet metal by the windshield set and at the sheet metal by your parking brake).

Check under your front rugs after a good rain to see if the carpet matting is damp or water is seen. A water leak intrusion can cause a condition such as this.
