Ford Repair: Emissions, transmission problem, common ground

Question
My 1999 Cougar will not pass emissions due to my transmission. How do I go around this to pass emissions? Can I rest the engine light and drive it immedialty up to the emissions place? Please help....

Answer
No, no, and no, you cannot. I have been there. Most states have a provision providing that if you have "purchased" a certain amount of parts, in monetary amount, you get an exception. Perhaps you can find a middle common ground. The fine print is very vague in most cases, so you could have do other things, besides the transmission problem, and maybe it would count? What is the code, if you don't know, take it to your local parts store, and have the codes read for free. Either way, your probably not going to like the outcome of what has to be done to resolve your situation, sorry. Be sure that if you do drive the vehicle, which is unadvised, to keep the failure emissions report in the car.
