Ford Repair: BUYING A 97 ESCORT WAGON, suzuki sidekick, auto tranny

Question
QUESTION: THINKING OF BUYING ONE, 89K MILES AUTO TRANNY,  FOR GENERAL USE AND FOR DELIVERY OF NEWSPAPERS APROX 69 MILES A NIGHT.  WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THIS CAR?  ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH ESCORTS?  I USE A 95 SUZUKI SIDEKICK (225K MILES) THATS SLOWLY FADING OUT TO THE SIDEKICK PASTURE.

ANSWER: There is nothing that stands out to me. Try and find out when the last time the timing belt as changed. If past 60k miles, figure it in within the next 20k miles. Also, if your a do it your selfer, figure in the cam and crank seals as well, which can give a fit when changing. Patience will overcome it. Good cars as far as I know, get descent fuel economy, and the parts are reasonable. For that matter, so is the labor. The labor on the timing belt is relatively low compared to most vehicles.

QUESTION: SO SHOULD I GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THOSE OFF THE BAT SINCE IT NOW HAS 89K?  DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND GOOD FORD ADVICE ONLINE?

Answer
You could wait a few thousand miles, it is just something to keep in mind. Let it make you some money fist. I like to think that I give pretty good Ford advice here. However, if you are looking for something extra, I would do a search. There are a heck of a lot of forums on the web for Fords. I use them a lot for oddball problems, with some success. Please, feel free to ask anytime.
