Ford Repair: Inner & Outer Tie Rods 2003 Ford Taurus, outer tie rods, ford taurus

Question
Hello.
I have a 2003 Ford Taurus. In June 2008 my mechanic replaced the inner and outer Tie Rods. The car had 114K. Yesterday my mechanic said the Tie Rods needed to be replaced again. I have 130K on the car. My mechanic said this is due to normal wear. Is this normal? I do not believe it is. How often should Tie Rods be replaced? How do I prevent this from happeneing every 15k or 20K miles? Could this be from improper installation the first time?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Bob Berneck

Answer
There is a problem with that year range Taurus tie rods. That is not normal wear and tear time, unless you do stunt driving? Find a different vendor for the parts this time. Most tie rods, come with a one year warranty. My point is this, pay the extra money and order the parts from the dealership. That doesn't mean they should replace them, but definitely get the parts from them.
