Ford Repair: Explorer stuck in 4x4 low, ford explorer 4x4, switch device

I own a 2000 Ford Explorer 4x4 SUV with an auto trans.  The transmission shifts fine but the 4x4 is stuck in Low and will not disengage.  A friend said there is a recall but thus far my shop has not returned my call.  Do you know if there is a recall or do you know where I could research recalls?  

Will I need a new transfer case or just a switch device to engage the 4x4?  I hear a slight rattling noise when I drive it. I have parked the suv till I determine whether I can fix the problem or not.

Hello William, If the switch is on the dashtry this procedure
1) start vehicle and put foot on brake
2) put transmision into neutral-keep foot on brake applied
3) turn switch to 4h then 4l back to 4h then 2h or auto
4) put back in park
this should get it out of 4x4 low mod, if it doesn't there is an issue with 4x4 system and would need to be diagnosed properly
