Ford Repair: water pump removal, fan shroud, fan clutch

Question
I have a 1988 F-250 with a straight six in it not sure of liter. I'm replacing water pump and I am having trouble.  I took the four bolts that go through the pulley into the water pump mount out and the pulley is loose. Do I have to get a clutch wrench and loosen that big nut in between the fan and the pulley for the fan and pulley to come off or is it just froze up on there. I didn't think the shaft that comes out of the water pump was threaded, but that might be where I'm wrong. I appreciate if you could help. Thanks Mike.

Answer
put bolts back in water pump there is a tool to hold the pulley while you remove the fan clutch-but if you have a big pair of channel locks you can get a brave soul to hold the pulley by the bolts while you take a wrench and try to break the big nut loose if that don't work you may take a hammer and hit the wrench with a sharp blow to break it loose (that's why you need a brave soul or a nut to hold them channel locks)be sure and look on fan shroud and see if the big nut is left handed threads or not. good luck.
