Ford Repair: Ford Crown Vic no start and immobilized, ford crown vic, pat key

Question
QUESTION: Hi Chris
I have a '96 Crown Victoria with a v8.
It won't start ...it cranks but only the battery warning light comes on when you turn key to ignition position, all other warning lights remain dark. Leaving the key in this position without trying to start will cause a chime to sound 5 times . I am not able to put it in neutral, this seems to be part of a immobilizing mode. There is no alarm on this vehicle. Thanks for any help.

ANSWER: hey there, does this car have a "pats key"? ( passive anti theft) the key is usualy a little larger and is has a chip in it that will have to be programmed to the vehicle. let me know.

Answer
hey there, i am not one to be telling people to try throwing parts at a vehicle, haha, but try replacing the transmission range sensor. and make sure the brake on off switch is not sticking, the BOO switch is located right behind the brake pedal. good luck
