Ford Repair: engine size!!, ford f 100, questionaries

Question
QUESTION: Hi james i was given a 1976 ford f-100 and i do believe the engine inside the truck is a v-8 not a v-6 that the truck originally had. i retreived the numbers of the block if you could help or point me in the right direction ide be very appreciated. D3TE9425A1A Ford. thanks Josh B.

ANSWER: I believe that you have a 360 ci block. Are you sure that the numbers cam off the block, and not the intake. To check the difference in V-6 and V-8 count the plug wires at the distributor.

QUESTION: your right james i think i did get those # from the intake. where would you suggest i look for those numbers. i cant go off the vin# because it says its a v-6 300 and i know for a fact its a v-8 and the previous owner said it was two trucks in one. another expert from your web site said he could tell with a water pump# a Jason Short but hes full of questionaries. so the pump# i found was PH-324 and underneath that was CY..thanks alot please let me know what can be done or where to turn to.. thanks alot..josh

Answer
The quickest way allegedly is to count the valve cover  bolts, assuming the heads came with the engine.A:(2)bolts: 239/256/272/292/312  (produced from 1954 to 1964) B:(5) bolts: 332/352/360/361/390/391/406/410/427/428 (FE engine) C:(6) bolts: 221/260/289/302/351W D:(7) bolts: 429/460 E:(8) bolts: 351C/351M/400 . On the passenger side of the block, there should be a casting number if this doesn't help.
