Ford Repair: ABS light on, ford f 150, head bolt

Question
Hello, I have a 2003 Ford F-150 Super Crew 4x4 with about 160K on it and it's been a good truck. Acouple weeks a go my ABS light just came on. What or where should I check first ? Thought maybe you might know of some common problems. Thanks Dan

Answer
Hi Dan,
The only way to tell for sure is to "pull the codes" from the ABS computer. Your FORD dealer or favorite mechanic can do that. You can make an inspection to check the front ABS sensors. Run your hands down the electrical wire to each front wheel and see if there are any breaks in the wire and the sensor is tight in the spindle. If OK, you might want to change out the rear ABS sensor. It fails more than any other part and is easy to change. It is located in the center of the rear axle and has 1 elec. plug. Held in by a 3/8 head bolt. It only costs $40.00 at your FORD dealer. The first thing you need to do is check your owners manual and see if all the ABS fuses are OK.GOOD LUCK
