Ford Repair: 2001 ford ranger power lose., ford ranger xlt, proper diagnosis

Question
Hey, I own a Automatic 2001 V6 3.0 liter Ford ranger XLT Extended Cab (Flex Fuel) With 150,000 Miles On it.  The problem I have is that It has a problem climbing hills,  It wasn't so bad before but now it goes into 5th Gear and still drops in speed. And it has slowly been getting worse over time.

I took it in to check the exhaust but the Muffler and Cati lac converter are both Fine.

It does have a check engine light on but far as i know It's for the fuel pump which I am trying to replace.

I've Yet to do a compression Check and change the Spark plugs. Any Help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
this truck needs to be diagnosed by a reputable garage-you don't get a code that means fuel pump is bad you may get a fuel pump primary circuit fault code but that could mean a relay or wiring fault although it is a good possibility you have a fuel pump fault a proper diagnosis may actually save you money because if it isn't the fuel pump  and you replace it you just threw that money away.

compression test would be good especially if it is running rough.

please have it checked out.
