Ford Repair: 1988 Ford Bronco Ignition Problems, 1988 ford bronco, bronco ignition

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1988 Ford Bronco XLT that I had to have a used steering column installed that will not start with the key. I have replaced the ignition switch already. I have had a wire installed from the solenoid to the dash with a push button on the dash but it still fails to start all the time. But the bronco will only start if I take a screwdriver to connect the solenoid bolts together. I was wondering if there was a way to repair the ignition switch on the steering column or if the steering column has to be replaced.

ANSWER: Hello Robbie, I would start by replacing the solenoid that you are jumping across for one thing. The other is a question, did you replace the switch at the bottom of the column or the one where the key goes in ? thanks Tony

QUESTION: I replaced the ignition switch where the key goes in. For it to start I have to put the key in the ignition, turn it to the run/start position, either press the start button but if that fails I get out the vehicle to start it by the solenoid.

Answer
Hello Robbie, do you feel any tension when you turn the key forward ?
If there isn't there is a rod in the column I call a "J Rod" it is at the top of the column inside. It pushes the rod down to the ignition switch. If they brake there is no tension and wont push the rod in the ignition switch to start. Hope this helps Thanks Tony
